illuminated American flag. Along with the external improvements,
some much needed house cleaning and reorganizing was done inside the
council which has created more space for members and guests.

DeSoto Council was founded on March 20, 1898. It is named after the famous
Spanish explorer, Fernando DeSoto, who explored much of
Southern North
America (the Mississippi River area in 1541). Many of the early councils
of
the Knights of Columbus were named after explorers.
DeSoto Council #327 works closely with Sacred Heart Parish and the
community
of Hell's Kitchen, providing support to local senior citizens, the youth
of
the community with our dedication to the Joseph Horvath Memorial
Scholarship
Fund, and many other neighborhood causes.
